Contemporary design on a quiet lane in Bali

Villa Swantika sits along Jalan Sempol in Pererenan, one of Bali's quietest and most characterful neighbourhoods on the island's southern coast. The surrounding streets are lined with rice paddies, small family temples, and the low-key studios and cafes that have drawn artists, surfers, and slow travellers here for years. You are far enough from central Seminyak to feel genuine calm, yet close enough to reach it in under fifteen minutes.

The R Villas Bali

The villa has been built with clean, contemporary lines that let the tropical setting do the talking. Concrete floors polished to a soft grey finish run throughout the ground floor, while timber accents on the ceilings and louvred shutters warm the palette considerably. The pool terrace is the natural heart of the property, where a rectangular pool in pale turquoise ceramic tile faces the garden. A covered outdoor daybed area and sun loungers invite long afternoons with a book or a cold Bintang.

Inside, the open-plan living and dining space connects directly to the kitchen, which is fully equipped for guests who want to cook. Both bedrooms are upstairs, each with an ensuite bathroom finished in terrazzo and natural stone. The rooms are dressed in white cotton linen, with ceiling fans as well as air conditioning, so you can tailor the atmosphere to the Bali night you want. Blackout curtains ensure genuine rest regardless of the hour.

Elevate Villas Bali manages the property with a small, attentive local team. A housekeeper visits daily, and a dedicated contact is available around the clock. Guests who book direct receive priority communication, no platform fees, and access to curated recommendations for restaurants, drivers, and experiences that the Elevate team has vetted personally. The villa accommodates up to four guests and is equally suited to couples travelling together or small families.

Morning light, slow coffee, and the quiet that Bali still offers

You arrive through a carved wooden gate off the lane, the sound of the road dissolving almost immediately. The villa team has left the pool lights on and a welcome tray with fresh fruit and Balinese ground coffee on the kitchen counter. You drop your bags and do the thing you came here to do: nothing, for a moment.

Mornings at Villa Swantika tend to start slowly. Sunlight enters the upstairs bedrooms through the louvred shutters before seven, soft and slanted. You make coffee in the fully equipped kitchen, carry it to the pool terrace, and watch a pair of dragonflies work the surface of the water. The neighbourhood beyond the wall is already quietly alive, the distant sound of a scooter, a temple bell, a rooster that has no sense of time.

By mid-morning you might walk the five minutes to one of Pererenan's small cafes for eggs and cold brew, or head directly to the beach, which is reachable on foot in around ten minutes. The surf break at Pererenan Beach attracts a focused crowd rather than a rowdy one, and the warung on the sand serves grilled fish and fresh coconuts at honest prices.

Afternoons belong to the pool. The terrace is designed to hold shade on one side through the hottest hours, so you can rotate between sun and shadow without effort. As the light drops to gold in the late afternoon, the garden takes on a different quality entirely, and the covered outdoor area becomes the most pleasant spot on the property.

Evenings open out into whatever Bali you want. Dinner at one of the serious restaurants along the Canggu corridor is twenty minutes away by scooter. Or you stay in, the local minimarket is a short walk, and the kitchen has everything you need.

Pererenan, Bali — the village that gets it right

Pererenan Beach

Pererenan Beach

10 minutes by foot

A wide black-sand beach with a reliable surf break, far less crowded than Echo Beach or Batu Bolong. Warung on the sand serve fresh grilled fish and cold coconuts at local prices.

Batu Bolong Beach

Batu Bolong Beach

20 minutes by scooter

The social heart of the Canggu area, with popular beach clubs, surf schools, and a string of cafes facing the Indian Ocean. Best visited on a weekday morning.

Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot Temple

20 minutes by car

One of Bali's most photographed sea temples, built on a rocky outcrop accessible at low tide. The walk along the coastal cliffs at sunset is genuinely rewarding.

Pasar Mengwi Market

Pasar Mengwi Market

15 minutes by car

A traditional Balinese produce market with fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, and local snacks. The best time to visit is early morning when the selection is at its widest.

Why Pererenan Remains Bali's Best-Kept Address

While neighbouring Canggu has grown louder by the year, Pererenan has held its character. Rice fields, a serious surf break, and a handful of genuinely good cafes run by people who live here — this is what the fuss is about.

Swimming Before Breakfast: The Case for a Private Pool

There is a particular quality to a pool at six in the morning in Bali — the air still cool, the light low and golden, the garden perfectly quiet. It is the sort of detail that changes the tone of an entire trip.

A Weekend at Tanah Lot and the Mengwi Roads

The road west from Pererenan runs through villages that most visitors never see. We drove it on a Saturday morning, stopped at the Mengwi market, and reached Tanah Lot well before the tour coaches. Here is how to do it right.
